Be sure the area around the battery is well ventilated while the battery is being tested.
Clean the battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from coming in contact with your eyes.
Inspect the battery for a cracked or broken case or cover. If the battery is damaged, do not use the tester.
the battery is not a sealed maintenance free battery, check the level
of each cell and if necessary, add distilled water until the battery
acid reaches the level specified by the manufacturer. This helps purge
excessive gas from the cells. Do not overfill.
If it is
necessary to remove the battery from the vehicle to test it, always
remove the ground terminal from the battery first. Make sure all
accessories in the vehicle are off to ensure you do not cause any
